Last month, we got a teasing first look at Tolkien, which will explore the younger days of the man who would go on to write that slightly influential fantasy series and worlds of The Lord Of The Rings, The Hobbit and other tomes. With Nicholas Hoult taking the lead, the new trailer is online.

Dome Karukoski directs this one, working from a script by David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford. Tolkien follows a couple of time periods, tracing John Ronald Reuel Tolkien's days at school, where he developed an "alliance" (it takes a while before we hear the "F" word – not that one) of artistic friends. It was a group shattered by joining the fight in World War I, and his experiences at both school and war influenced his later work. We also learn of his love for language, which also had an impact.

Also a love of his life? Edith Bratt (Lily Collins), a fellow orphan who JRR bonds with and would end up becoming his wife. Tolkien is out in UK cinemas on 3 May.
