New Battleship Trailer Explodes In

The first trailer for Battleship docked on the web back in July. But now, with lots more FX shots completed and a fresh approach to selling the film, the new promo for the movie is online over at Apple.

And that new approach? That would apparently be convincing the world that Battleship is the next Transformers. Complete with a massive plug that this is from the producers of the robo-pic to some awfully familiar-sounding sound effects and fast trailer cutting, you’d almost believe that Universal abducted Peter Berg and replaced him with Michael Bay.

Still, the eye candy stuff is still fun and we get a few more story nuggets this time around. The setup remains the same: a fleet of US Navy and Japanese ships are on a war games exercise when something mysterious lands in the water. Taylor Kitsch’s Hopper is dispatched to take a closer look, but gets a little too handsy with the alien object. The new bits of footage show some land-based damage and the fact that the crafty attackers surround an area with a force field, leaving a few ships trapped and forced to fight on their own.

With a cast that also features the likes of Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard, Brooklyn Decker and Rihanna, Battleship will be out on April 20, 2012.
