Michelle Rodriguez Is Citizen Jane?

We know what you're thinking: what the world really needs is an action remake of Citizen Kane. Well rejoice, for your wish shall - possibly - be granted. Michelle Rodriguez is apparently preparing **Citizen Jane.

If we're to believe it (more on that later), Rodriguez will play Charlotte Foster Jane, an assassin hellbent on avenging the murder of her parents. "She will do anything for her rosebud" says the publicity machine. Er, what does that mean? The film has a website, with a teaser poster, a very silly but amusing trailer from Fantastic Fest ("That's right, bitches"), and a release date of September 5, 2011, which just happens to be Citizen Kane's 70th anniversary. Danny Trejo, Jeff Fahey and Daryl Sabara, all of whom are in Machete, are apparently also involved. If that makes this sound like a Robert Rodriguez / Troublemaker Studios affair though, think again. It's not. The Playlist asked.

So far, so daft b-movie. This stuff happens. Barb Wire is a remake of Casablanca. Michelle Rodriguez is working hard to position herself as an action heroine. BUT,Bleeding Cool did some digging and believe they've blown the lid on a hoax. Citizen Jane, they reckon, is a fictional film within Aaron Burns' forthcoming comedy Blacktino, in which Rodriguez has a small part, and the cast sheet for which requires an "athletic action heroine" and a "mad scientist" for a "fake movie trailer". /Film noticed that the copyright belongs to "Urban Arson", an anagram of Aaron Burns.

Joke? Viral marketing? Something that started as a hoax but took on a life of its own? Whatever, it's a laugh. Blacktino's Facebook page promises "updates and fun stuff coming soon"...
