The limitless possibilities of animation mean there’s very little you can’t put on the screen if you really put your mind to it – and if you ever needed proof, take a look at MFKZ. The upcoming French-Japanese anime is an unhinged blend of science-fiction, film noir, and lucha libre wrestling, creating a tripped-out adventure set in a seedy metropolis. The film follows Angelino and his flame-headed pal Vinz, as the former comes to realise he’s a super-powered half-alien in the wake of a scooter accident. The result is something wildly weird, depicted in heavily-stylised animation.

Empire has an exclusive clip showing Angelino and Vinz attempting to escape the nefarious Machos aliens – made from dark matter and intent on exploiting the world's resources – before luchador vigilante gang Lucha Ultima come to the rescue.

As well as its unique vision and evocative animation, the film boasts a voice cast including the likes of The Shield’s Michael Chiklis, Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito, Danny Trejo, and Wu-Tang legend RZA. And, as heard in the clip, voicing Vinz is rapper Vince Staples.

The film hits UK and Irish cinemas on Thursday 11 October – take a look at mfkzthemovie.com to find the screening nearest to you.
