Everyone else go home, the most beautiful-looking trailer of the year has arrived. Marrying the visual fireworks of Zhang Yimou with that handsome Matt Damon-shaped face, the first look at the Chinese filmmaker’s 15th century epic The Great Wall is well worth a couple of minutes of your time. Trust us, your eyeballs will thank you for it.

Zhang's (Hero, House Of Flying Daggers) story finds soldiers in 15th century China searching for gunpowder and discovering much more. But though they initially think that the wall, still under construction, is the most amazing thing they’ll encounter, that’s only the start of it – as the structure is being put in place not to just keep out invaders, but also mystical creatures.

Beyond that? At this point, no-one knows. What we do now know is that it’ll be an extraordinary spectacle, with a colour palette to stand in the company of Akira Kurosawa’s Ran and tonnes of action.

We’ll be seeing him dealing with The Great Wall’s China crisis on February 24, 2017. If you’re looking for a Damon fix in the short term, he also has Jason Bourne out this week.
