Though there was some discussion about Amazing Spider-director Marc Webb not coming back between the first and this year’s second film, there appear to be no such concerns this time around. Webb is set for** The Amazing Spider-Man 3**, which is scheduled to arrive here in May 2016.

Buried within a Variety piece about Sony growing its stable of franchises is a mention of the expanding Spider-universe, with solid confirmation that Webb will be making a trio of Amazing Spider-Man films by directing the third.

There is also the nugget that co-writer Alex Kurtzman will direct the planned Venom film, which he’s been overseeing with regular partner Roberto Orci and Ed Solomon. And we get a repeat of the reports that Drew Goddard has been tapped for villain team-up movie The Sinister Six, with an eye to potentially direct it. It’s all in aid of Sony putting together a steady release stream to rival that of Marvel’s comic book creations or Disney’s plans for Star Wars: “We are expanding the **Spider-Man **universe into The Sinister Six and Venom, so that we have Spider-Man movies every year,” studio boss Amy Pascal tells the trade magazine.

Webb’s world will be taken up with** Spider-Man** until at least 2016, with the third film set for May 27 over here and the fourth dated for May 4, 2018. Whether he’ll stay past the third one is, of course, another matter and may depend on how well the second performs and whether he wants to commit more years to one franchise.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2, meanwhile, swings in on April 18, and Sony is keeping the marketing machine going with new trailers and even a web-based video game that lets you pretend to be Spidey.
