Sony has lured Marc Webb back in to the fold to make the sequel to** The Amazing Spider-Man**,{ =nofollow}activating Andrew Garfield’s contract to have him return and entering into talks to secure Emma Stone’s services once again.

Back in July, there was some talk that Webb might not return, based partly on comments by Columbia Pictures president Doug Belgrad and rumours that Webb had clashed with executives over the tone and story for the movie. There was also a suggestion that Webb was contractually obliged to make another film for Fox following (500) Days Of Summer.

But, claims The Hollywood Reporter, the delay was more likely down to 500 hours of contract negotiation, with the director looking to enjoy a pay rise this time around. And not without cause, given that the first movie made more than $750 million worldwide.

Still, with that May 2, 2014 release date creeping closer, it’s all happiness and press releases right now. “We could not be more confident in the direction we are taking this new Spider-Man storyline", Belgrad says, "and we are tremendously excited to be ramping up production again with Marc at the helm and Andrew continuing on as Peter Parker. We can’t wait to share what we have in store for Peter and Spider-Man with audiences worldwide.”

Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner have all worked on the script, which was originally drafted by the first movie’s James Vanderbilt. We’re just keeping our web-shooters crossed they don’t have entire subplots go missing this time around. But news that Webb – who did a great job directing – and the powerhouse duo of Garfield and Stone will all return is certainly cause for celebration. You may begin your guesses now as to who plays Norman Osborn, assuming he shows up properly...
