Luther

It’s been a while since the gruff visage and rumpled coat of Idris Elba’s John Luther graced our screens; a little something to do with the leading man’s fast-accelerating big screen career and the thought that perhaps the character’s story was wrapped up at the end of the last series in 2013. But sensing that we all want more, the team is back for a couple of episodes and there’s a new Luther trailer to prove it.

Though he tried to vanish off into seclusion, our grouchy, passionate, brainy hero can’t quite ever seem to escape the call of crime and grime as he’s pulled back to duty to investigate his most gruesome case yet. A cannibalistic serial killer is haunting the streets of London, which means it’s time for some unorthodox police work and a whole lot of moody looking out at skylines.

With Michael Smiley back on duty as Benny, Elba is joined this time by Laura Haddock, John Heffernan, Patrick Malahide, Darren Boyd, Dermot Crowley and Game Of Thrones’ Rose Leslie, who had better not try to tell John Luther that he knows nothing or there will be words.

The two hour-long Luther episodes air on the BBC on December 15 and head to BBC America on December 17.
