Some projects linger in limbo for so long that it’s easy to forget their actual existence. But some do eventually crawl out of the development soup and latch on to creative people to make them happen. Such is the case with indie drama The Only Living Boy in New York, which is now targeting Percy Jackson’s Logan Lerman as its leading man.

The film, which takes it title from the Simon and Garfunkel song, is an odd coming-of-age story about a young man (Lerman) who learns his oppressive father is having an affair. But when he intervenes to try to shut down the romance, he ends up falling for the woman involved. Instead of everyone ending up on the Jerry Springer Show, the lad gets some advice on life and love from a weird, questionable neighbour.

Seth Gordon, who made gaming challenge doc The King of Kong and has since gone on to comedy with Four Christmases and the upcoming Horrible Bosses, is attached to roll the cameras starting later this year.

Lerman has Paul WS Anderson’s explosion-heavy take on the Three Musketeers tale ready to come out this year and he’s also set to start work on another quirky indie,** The Perks of being a Wallflower**, which has Mae Whitman and Emma Watson also attached.
