Dan Fogelman has declared war on your tear ducts. The man behind This Is Us and Crazy, Stupid, Love is back with Life Itself — no, not the Roger Ebert documentary — and by the looks of the first trailer, it’s going to leave cinemagoers in puddles by the time the end credits roll.

The film stars Oscar Isaac as Will, an old-school romantic who declares his undying love for the love of his life, played by Olivia Wilde, and the plot looks set to follow their unfolding lives over years — and possibly decades. Elsewhere the cast is a pretty remarkable ensemble includes the likes of Antonio Banderas, Ready Player One’s Olivia Cooke, Annette Bening and Mandy Patinkin. With the synopsis promising ‘a multigenerational saga’, those familiar with This Is Us’ narrative twists will likely have theories about how that cast all comes together.

Life Itself is getting a US release on 21 September – sadly UK audiences will have to wait a little longer, with the film due for a January launch over here. Still, that's more time to stockpile tissues.
