James L Brooks has earned a lot of latitude over the years, having directed the likes of Terms Of Endearment, Broadcast News, As Good as it Gets and helping to bring a little TV show called The Simpsons to the air, but more recently, even he seemed to stumble with Spanglish. We’re hoping his latest tale of romantic comedy and drama, How Do You Know, will get him back on track. And now we have a chance to see some footage in the first trailer, online at Yahoo Movies and below for your ocular pleasure.
How Do You Know charts the love triangle that develops between professional sportswoman Lisa Jorgenson (Reese Witherspoon), baseball pitcher Manny (Owen Wilson) and stressed-out executive George (Paul Rudd).
Panicked that she’s not considered marriage material, Lisa starts dating Manny, but it turns out he’s a big lunkhead and they break up shortly after she meets George. He’s cute and sweet, but he has a world of problems, many of them legal and one of them his father, Charles (Jack Nicholson).
It’s tough to judge from one generic trailer whether the film represents a return to form, but we did at least chuckle a few times. Take a look below and decide for yourself.
