Would you watch a film described as “Unforgiven with a sewing machine”? Frankly, it sounds sufficiently bizarre to have us lining up. Kate Winslet is looking to find out with a new drama called **The Dressmaker{ =nofollow}, which finds her starring alongside Judy Davis.

Australian writer-director Jocelyn Moorhouse is behind this one, having adapted the script from Rosalie Ham’s book. The story focuses on Tilly Dunnage (Winslet), a couturier who returns from years in Europe to her small Outback hometown. She was forced to flee the remote town after being accused of murder and is now out for revenge. Tilly returns looking to deal with her past and also make amends with her mother (Davis).

"This is a project with rich, complex characters and an indelible Australian setting. Jocelyn is the perfect filmmaker to bring Rosalie Ham's book to screens throughout the world,” says producer Sue Maslin. “The incredible assembly of talent in front of and behind the camera is testimony to the ambition of everyone involved to make a great film."

The cameras will start rolling next year. Winslet will next be seen in Jason Reitman’s Labor Day, due here on February 7, followed by dystopian young adult adaptation Divergent, which arrives on March 21. Davis is part of the cast for Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s** The Young And Prodigious T.S. Spivet**, which doesn’t yet have a UK release date.
