Following a summer playing moms in blockbusters (Tomorrowland, Jurassic World, Ant-Man) Judy Greer is ready to stretch some different creative muscles. She's set to make her debut as a director with the dramedy A Happening Of Monumental Proportions{ =nofollow}. Alison Janney and Common have signed up to star.

Gary Lundy (new to screenwriting, but formerly a player in Donnie Darko) wrote the script, which was a finalist for the Sundance Writer's Lab. It's described as "an all-in-one-day tale of sex, lies and dead bodies", set in a small school in Los Angeles.

Production company Depth Of Field are behind the project, with Andrew Miano and Chris and Paul Weitz producing. "Judy had become an old friend of ours so when she called and she wanted to direct this for us, it was very flattering,” says Miano. "Of course we said yes."

Greer is currently shooting War For The Planet Of The Apes, reprising her role from Dawn as the simian Cornelia. A Happening Of Monumental Proportions will presumably get moving after that.
