It’s a good news/bad news day in terms of film projects looking to win the services of Jennifer Lawrence. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she’s dropped out of **The Rosie Project{ =nofollow}, which Richard Linklater had been developing. And that might have something to do with the fact that Variety has learned she’s in early talks to join Darren Aronofsky’s next film.

Aronofsky has been keeping quiet about what his next job might be, though he has several projects in development at any one time. While he’d hoped to make something about a boy whose drawings come to life, he had budget differences with New Regency – which has a first look deal on his potential movies – and decided to move on from it. The new, untitled and mysterious film is now in the planning stages, as the director is aiming to kick off shooting next spring.

As for The Rosie Project, the adaptation of Grahame Simison’s book about a socially inept genetics professor who tries to find his soul mate using a scientifically sound survey only to be baffled when the whirlwind that is Rosie Jarman sweeps into his life – was originally developed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller for Sony before they moved onto other, Star Wars-flavoured things. Linklater was courted to direct after they left and he’s now officially aboard, so will be leading the search for someone to take over the role that was in the process of being tailored for Lawrence.

The actress will next be on screens in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, out November 19. That will be followed on January 1 by David O. Russell’s Joy, and X-Men: Apocalypse, which is due on May 19. She’s currently filming sci-fi romance Passengers opposite Chris Pratt, and that should be in cinemas here on December 23 next year.
