Jason Bateman Up For The Insane Laws

As if he hadn’t had enough trouble dealing with psychotic office tyrant Kevin Spacey in Horrible Bosses, or the trauma of swapping bodies with Ryan Reynolds in The Change-Up, it looks like Jason Bateman is ready to subject himself to more problems on the comedy front, entering early talks to co-star with Vince Vaughn in The Insane Laws.

If Bateman signs on, he’ll play Vaughn’s best pal, forming a pair who have been inseparable since before college. While they’ve both grown, gotten married and had kids, they’re remained close. But then the friendship is tested when Vaughn’s daughter – who, not so coincidentally, has secretly fallen for Bateman’s son – falls pregnant.

Universal snatched the script from the turnaround whirlpool back in March and began to develop it as a vehicle for Vaughn. It comes from the brain of writer and, since he’s picking up the megaphone for the first time, director, Jeremy Garelick.

It’s no coincidence that Bateman is being scouted for the film – he’s worked several times with Vaughn and cropped up in The Break-Up, which Garelick wrote. Should everything fall into place, the plan is to kick off shooting before the end of the year.
