Ice Cube Confirmed For 22 Jump Street

We weren't really under the impression that this was ever in doubt, but with shooting imminent comes the formal announcement that Ice Cube has finalised his deal and will be returning for the 21 Jump Street sequel{ =nofollow}. He will shout another day at Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in 22 Jump Street, which this time also stars Wyatt Russell.

"Sometimes you act like a dick, Mr Nightstick," rapped Cube of a cop who was annoying him in 1994. These days, however, Cube himself is acting like a Dick_son_, since that's the name of his beleaguered Jump Street police captain. That was a very laboured Cube reference, but we hope you appreciate it and see what we did there.

In days gone by, of course, Cube's NWA attitude to the police was, shall we say, not favourable{ =nofollow}. Lately, however, he seems happy enough to play a motherfucker in a blue uniform with the authority to kill a minority, provided the plot involves corruption (Rampart) or comedy. His Jump Street role is in a long tradition of hapless captains dating back to 48 Hrs' Frank McRae and beyond, and we can only look forward to his continued exasperated ragging on recruits Schmidt and Jenko.

**22 Jump Street **is directed (as before) by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and written by Michael Bacall. Shooting starts at the end of this month, and it's out in the UK on June 6 next year.
