But Val Kilmer will save us

Well, here's an idea we haven't heard before: an Arctic research team are attacked by a deadly prehistoric parasite released by melting polar ice. No, it's not a Thing remake (and let's not put ideas in Platinum Dune's head) because that was an alien and it was in the Antarctic, so is completely different. And hey, it didn't star Val Kilmer, Martha MacIsaac and now Aaron Ashmore.

The story's essentially all there in the synopsis, with a mixture of college students (Superbad's MacIsaac, Ashmore) and some older teachers (Kilmer, we're guessing) holed up in the Arctic while bad things happened. Don't be surprised if a snowstorm cuts off communication with any form of rescue, either, because that's traditional in these situations.

Now if it were Aaron's twin brother Shaun who'd been cast, we'd have a ready-made joke about him being Iceman in X-Men, and how he could just freeze the parasite again and all would be well. Aaron, however, is best known to date for playing Jimmy Olsen on Smallville, the awesomely named Troy Vandegraff in Veronica Mars, and the title role in Prom Queen: The Marc Hall Story, which sounds fantastic but which we sadly haven't seen.

Writer-director Mark A. Lewis previously made Ill Fated, and this is only his second film. So best of luck, and let's hope it's a patch on The Thing.
