The Hunger Games continued to rule at the US box office this weekend, easily seeing off competition from pratfalling numbskulls and tweaked horror concepts. Yes, the first adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ bestselling trilogy earned another $21.5 million, pushing its current domestic total to $337 million.

That meant the Farrelly brothers’ long-gestating take on The Three Stooges had to make do with second, though it arrived to a decent $17.1 million. The Cabin In The Woods scared up third place, earning $14.8 million, not too shabby for a film that has been stuck in release limbo for years thanks to MGM’s financial woes. That said, we predict Joss Whedon’s other, slightly buzzed-about film for the year (something about a superhero team who avenge, or somesuch thing) could end up making slightly more when it arrives in a couple of weeks.

Titanic 3D sank down one place to fourth with $11.6 million, while American Pie: Reunion took a dip to fifth and $10.7 million. Mirror Mirror fell to sixth, making $7 million, while Wrath Of The Titans was at seventh with $6.9 million. In eighth, we find 21 Jump Street earning $6.8 million, just ahead of new entry Lockout. The space-set prison action romp debuted low, crawling into ninth with $6.2 million despite opening on 2,308 cinema screens. And at tenth place, **Dr Seuss’ The Lorax **added $3 million to its US haul.
