There’s an old adage which we’re sure you’ve heard before: if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Now, of course, most of the times that’s utter bollocks – Empire has tried countless times and yet Rosario Dawson still insists on not becoming Mrs. Empire – but in the case of a guy called Christian Gudegast, it’s ringing very true right about now.

For Gudegast has been signed by Relativity Media to direct the bank heist thriller, Den Of Thieves, the script for which he first wrote ten years ago.

That screenplay, penned along with Paul Scheuring, was set up at one point with Peter Berg down to direct the tale of a thief who gets caught between two sets of criminals while he’s planning a heist.

When that fell through due to budgetary concerns, the movie’s producer Chris Bender and J. C. Spink tried to reinvent it as a TV show, with Glen Morgan and James Wong on board. However, although a pilot was shot, it never made it to air.

Still, though, Gudegast didn’t give up and now the former music video director is set to make his feature directorial debut, with cameras set to start rolling in October. We wish him well.
