Following on from his effort to turn the likes of Catch-22 into televised entertainment, George Clooney is headed back to the big screen, but is sticking with the world of novel adaptations, agreeing to direct and star in Good Morning, Midnight for Netflix.

Lily Brooks-Dalton’s sci-fi thriller hit shelves in 2017, and Mark L. Smith is on to adapt the post-apocalyptic tale, which follows the parallel stories of Augustine (Clooney), a lonely scientist in the Arctic, and an astronaut on board the Aether spacecraft, which is trying to return home to Earth, as Augustine races to make contact with the spaceship.

According to Variety, Clooney and co-producer Grant Heslov won’t be holding on to the book’s title, but haven’t come up with a new one just yet. “Grant and I couldn’t be more excited to be involved with this incredible project,” Clooney tells the trade mag. “Mark is a writer we’ve long admired and his script is haunting. We’re thrilled to be working with our friends at Netflix as well.”

The cameras should be rolling in October.
