While we weren’t exactly thrilled with Taken 2, and Liam Neeson went on the record saying he didn’t think a third film was likely, a big box office result and a potentially lucrative deal for the man with the particular set of skills led to the announcement last June of Taken 3. The second film’s director, Olivier Megaton, is back behind the megaton-phone, and he has Forest Whitaker in talks to co-star.

Producer Luc Besson and regular scribbling partner Robert Mark Kamen have thrashed out the screenplay for the film, though we don’t yet know exactly what will be happening beyond the obvious possibilities for kidnapping once again. Neeson is back as Bryan Mills, and Deadline reports that Maggie Grace will return to play his daughter Kim, and Whitaker, if he makes a deal, will join them in some capacity.

Though he's been on a run of higher-brow drama recently, Whitaker has been known to dabble in action thrillers, including the likes of Vantage Point. Given how menacing he can be, we could see him as the villain threatening Mills and co. this time. That’s all in flux however, as he’s still only in negotiations. Either way, Besson and Megaton are hoping to have this one shooting soon.
