Pairings featuring a cop and someone else usually crop up in the service of buddy police comedies, but horror is muscling in on the game with Scott Derrickson’s Deliver Us From Evil (still known here as Beware The Night), which finds Eric Bana as a cop working with Edgar Ramirez’ man of the cloth to investigate weird crimes. Two images from the film are now online via Hitfix.

Bana stars as New York police officer Ralph Sarchie, struggling with his own personal issues, who begins investigating a series of disturbing and inexplicable crimes. He joins forces with an unconventional priest (Ramirez), schooled in the rituals of exorcism, to combat the frightening and demonic possessions that are terrorizing their city. It's all based upon the book that details Sarchie’s bone-chilling real-life cases.

Yes, you read that right: it’s all fuelled by a real police officer’s experiences, clearly looking to build on the success of The Conjuring from last year and aiming at a similar summer release in the States (with a slight wait for it in these parts.)

With Olivia Munn, Sean Harris and Joel McHale among the eclectic cast, the film – whether it maintains the **Beware The Night **title or switches to Deliver Us From Evil everywhere – will be out on July 2 in the US and August 22 in the UK.
