Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk’s second novel is beginning its journey to the big screen and it may well create as big a stir as its predecessor. Survivor revolves around ex-suicide-cult member Tender Branson who hijacks a 747, clears out all the passengers and tells the story of his life to the doomed plane’s flight recorder. The tale of Branson’s rise and fall from last survivor of the Creedish cult to celebrity evangelist sees him involved in a number of decidedly un-PC activities. He invents stories of child abuse to the media, poses as a crisis helpline in order to encourage callers to commit suicide, visits the scenes of tragedies as they occur with precognitive friend Fertility and constantly tries to find an appropriate opportunity to top himself. Dark Horizons reports that Survivor is being adapted for the screen by Jake Paltrow (brother of Gwyneth) and is to be scored by Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor. No other names have been attached to the project as yet.
