Jason Statham. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Idris Elba. Who else has the brawn, the stature, the stamina to step in the swirling vortex of testosterone that is Hobbs And Shaw, the much-anticipated Fast & Furious spin-off? Enter: Eddie Marsan. OK, so he might not be a brawly action star, but one of Britain’s best actors is a quality new addition to the film’s already impressive cast.

While Marsan might not seem like an obvious choice for the cars-and-stunts-and-quips-and-fights world of the Fast & Furious, it makes more sense when you factor in that David Leitch is directing this one. The filmmaker has worked with Marsan on his previous two films, casting him as the headmaster of a cruel school in Deadpool 2 and as a Stasi defector in Atomic Blonde. There’s no word on the role he’ll take in Hobbs And Shaw – but if Leitch can turn him into some kind of action master we’d absolutely love to see that.

The film will see Johnson’s agent Luke Hobbs make an unlikely alliance with terrorist-turned-good-guy Deckard Shaw as they go head-to-head with Elba’s villain. Also starring in the film is Vanessa Kirby as another Shaw sibling – and while they’re not confirmed, it’s reasonable to expect that Luke Evans’ Owen Shaw and Helen Mirren’s Magdalene Shaw could pop up for a cameo. The film is currently shooting in London, and will power its way to the big screen next summer on 2 August.
