We flipped in all kinds of ways for The Descent, so we're extremely intrigued by what might come of Neil Marshall's next film Doomsday. You can watch the trailer for it online here.
We like it, with a couple of minor reservations. The idea of a new civilization – albeit barely civilized – creating itself after being sealed off from humanity following the spread of a deadly virus is a great one. There are obvious shades of Mad Max and 28 Days Later to the movie, which is absolutely no bad thing. And a lot of the action looks great.
That said, there's something lacking that we can't quite put our finger on. Maybe it's that the trailer lacks a real money shot. Maybe it's that we still think of Rhona Mitra as Lara Croft. However, before we saw the full movie, The Descent looked like it was just going to be a bog standard horror and that turned out to be pretty fantastic.
