Dennis Quaid in Fortitude season 2

Given a stellar cast, a big budget and a marketing campaign that involved a polar bear travelling on London Underground, season one of Fortitude was something of a disappointment. Season two, however, promises a notching up of the pace, hopefully stripping away some of the convolution without sacrificing the chilly Icelandic atmospherics. Hints at cover-ups, conspiracies and supernatural goings-on are rife in this first promo. As the lady says, "Bad things come at night. You’ll need to be ready.” Sky Atlantic’s show is promising plenty of ‘em, and maybe even a return from that polar bear.

The first season, glacial in mood and sometimes pacing, was a horror-thriller that saw friends and neighbours slowly turn on each other as a strange discovery in a remote Icelandic town brought murder and mayhem in its wake. Now we find Dennis Quaid joining the paranoia party as Michael Lennox, and Governor Odegard (The Killing’s Sofie Gråbøl) presiding over a new, equally dark threat.

Alongside Gråbøl, Richard Dormer, Luke Treadaway and Sienna Guillory also return for an instalment that was shot in Iceland and the UK.

Fortitude season 2 lands on Sky Atlantic in 2017.
