Given that Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Bryan Cranston have all jumped aboard Legendary Pictures’ new version of Godzilla, we really want to see the script that Frank Darabont has been busy polishing. Because it’s clearly good enough to snag yet another solid actor: one named David Strathairn.

Of course, Monsters director Gareth Edwards and the chance to appear alongside one of the most iconic movie monsters of all time could be a draw, but after what Roland Emmerich did to the titular beastie back in 1998, we’re not sure Gojira has quite the incredible charisma he once did.

As with the other announcements, Strathairn’s exact role in the story, and the overarching plot itself, are still being kept quiet, Variety has heard that the new casting arrival will be a military man.

With earlier scripting work from Max Borenstein and Dave Callaham, the new Godzilla is scheduled to start stomping around shortly, aiming for a May 16, 2014 release date. There’s still no word on whether Godzooky is willing to budge on his demands for a bigger trailer. He likes them in doublewide with extra relish.
