Christian Bale Back For David O. Russell
And his new, untitled true con pic
David O. Russell has gathered a hefty band of veterans (and one newcomer) for his latest, untitled drama that once went by the name American Bullsh*t. And though back in July it appeared that Christian Bale had dropped out and been replaced by Jeremy Renner, the former Bruce Wayne is now back aboard.
Russell has co-written the script with Eric Warren Singer (who penned the first few drafts) based on the strange-but-true story of a financial con man (Bale) and his girlfriend / partner (Amy Adams), who are caught by an OTT federal agent (Bradley Cooper).
But instead of being sent straight to the slammer, they’re offered a deal provided they help turn the tables on other crooks, mobsters and some very dodgy politicians. The long con – known as Abscam – saw them take on the leader of the New Jersey state assembly (Renner), among others.
“David has put together an incredible ensemble of actors for what is going to be a powerful and emotional drama about one of the most memorable cast of characters in recent history,” says producer Charles Roven. The cameras begin cranking this February, and the movie is likely to arrive in time for awards season next year.
