Chevy Chase Up For The New Vacation

While the casting for the new Vacation film has so far focused on new recruits, writer/directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein have made no secret of the fact that they want to acknowledge what came before. So naturally they now have Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo in early talks to reprise their original roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold.

The plot for this latest take on the Griswold family’s misadventures finds Ed Helms as a grown Rusty taking his own wife (Christina Applegate) and family out on an expedition that will go comically wrong.

Chase and D’Angelo are expected to pop up in largely cameo roles when Rusty decides to make a pitstop to visit his parents. Though they weren’t sure if they wanted to return, they’ve apparently been convinced by the most recent draft of the script. And it’s not like they’re unwilling to play the roles again – they appeared as Clark and Ellen as recently as this past Christmas in a series of Old Navy adverts on US TV.

Daley and Goldstein are gearing up to direct the film this summer. While it’s their first time calling the shots, their writing work has already been seen this year in The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and will be on show again in the upcoming Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs sequel, due out October 25.
