Bryan Singer Tweets New X-Men Set Pic

Bryan Singer's Twitter campaign of cryptic X-Men: Days Of Future Past reveals continued yesterday evening, but he was less oblique when he appeared on stage at Montreal's Fantasia International Film Festival. The audience Q&A at the latter reads like a round-up of much of what we know about the Marvel mutant sequel so far (spoilers ahoy, obvs). The tweet meanwhile, shows a bright light, the back of a cameraman and the wrong side of a set.

"The brightest set I've ever filmed on," says Singer, hashtagging the name Quicksilver and the phrase "3600 frames per second".

Brightest set I've ever filmed on. If you'll allow us to explain, 3600 frames is considerably more than usual, so it's a slow-motion thing, with extra light then required for the film's exposure. Clearly Quicksilver's mutant powers - he can think and move at superhuman speeds - require a special kind of trickery to bring them to the screen. We can only imagine what's happening to poor Evan Peters inside that box...

Quicksilver was also the subject of some of the Fantastic Fest chat, specifically in terms of his usual pairing with his twin sister the Scarlet Witch. Scarlet Witch, Singer confirms, is definitely not in Days Of Future Past, while she is in **Avengers: Age Of Ultron **along with another Quicksilver.

The rest of Singer's X-teases have been heard before elsewhere, but for those catching up, the bulletpoint essentials are:

Most of the film happens in 1973, but the future bits take place ten years after X3: The Last Stand. The characters carried over from X-Men: First Class will have changed considerably in the eleven-year interim.

  • Professor X is still alive having managed to "transfer his consciousness" before he died. Cyclops, however, remains dead, even though Singer doesn't like it.
  • William Stryker is in the film, played this time by Josh Helman. He gets to fill the big shoes of Brian Cox and Danny Huston, who played the character in, respectively, X2 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
  • Singer has plans for another Marvel movie, which he won't go into other than to call it a Marvel Universe "mash-up"...

With another year to go before release, the drip-feed of information and gnomic tweets has a while to run yet. You'll know by now that the ridiculously starry and accomplished cast includes Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Peter Dinklage, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Fan Bingbing, Anna Paquin and Daniel Cudmore. X-Men: Days Of Future Past will be with us on July 17, 2014.
