Ben Wheatley Is Already Shooting a Mysterious New Film

Few directors have been as prolific in recent years as Ben Wheatley, the British filmmaker who rarely has a new film in cinemas without already having wrapped his next one. Getting 2018 off to a productive start, it appears Wheatley has snuck off to shoot a previously-unannounced project — and it’s already halfway done.

According to shots on his Instagram, the film is being shot under the unorthodox (and probably working-) title, Colin You Anus. It marks a reunion for plenty of Wheatley regulars, with cinematographer Laurie Rose on board, and a cast including Sam Riley, who starred in Wheatley’s 2016 thriller Free Fire, and Neil Maskell of Kill List and High-Rise. Also starring is Asim Chaudry, aka Chabuddy G from BBC Three comedy People Just Do Nothing.

A few other intriguing details can be gleaned through the Instagram accounts of Wheatley and his production company Rook Films — the Colin shoot is just 11 days long, and largely seems to be taking place around castles. Could it be a kind of crude, semi-modern update of Shakespeare’s Coriolanus? Or something else entirely?

Either way, it seems like this is a totally different project to Freakshift, Wheatley’s much-mooted sci-fi monster-fest, which has Alicia Vikander, Armie Hammer and Sasha Lane attached. Colin could wind up being the A Field In England to Freak Shift’s High-Rise.

With Wheatley apparently editing the film at the same time as shooting it, expect to hear more official word on Colin You Anus soon.
