If it wasn’t enough that HBO has treated us to the bold return of Westworld (read our verdict of Season 2 Episode 1 here), the premium TV service has put out the first trailer for a new limited series packed with attention-grabbing names.

This summer will see the arrival of Sharp Objects, based on the novel by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn and scripted by Buffy alumnus Marti Noxon. So far, so intriguing. The show boasts Amy Adams in the lead role, with support from Patricia Clarkson and Sophia Lillis (aka It’s Bev Marsh) — and on top of that, all eight episodes are directed by Jean-Marc Vallée who previously spun hit novel Big Little Lies into one of 2017’s most engrossing star-studded shows. Colour us very excited.

The trailer is light on plot and high on moody gothic atmosphere, but the show will star Adams as reporter Camille Preaker who returns to her hometown in Missouri to cover a grisly murder case. Sharp Objects is set to debut Stateside in July, so hopefully we won’t have to wait long for it to arrive this side of the Atlantic.
