For a long time it appeared that 2 Gun****s – which features Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington paired up as trigger-happy operatives – would be your standard gritty action thriller. The stars themselves certainly made it sound that way. But the first trailer points to much more of a mismatched buddy-cop comedy element mixed in there. Take a look over at Apple’s site.
Wahlberg and Washington are Stig and Bobby, who on first glance appear to be mob enforcers carrying out crimes for their bosses. But when they team up to rip-off a bank, they discover that nothing is quite what it seems. For one thing, Stig is Special Forces, while Washington is undercover DEA, and the money they took has some very dangerous people down on their heads.
Forced to work together – an idea that Stig embraces long before Bobby – they’ll have to avoid their own colleagues and the criminals they were investigating if they’re going to discover the truth and, more importantly, survive.
With a cast that includes James Marsden, Paula Patton, Bill Paxton, Edward James Olmos and Fred Ward, this actually looks like it could be a lot of fun. Wahlberg and Washington have an easy, if itchy, chemistry and there are some chuckle-worthy moments in the promo.
2 Guns arrives across the pond on August 2, before spreading around Europe in August, September and October. While there’s no UK release date mentioned yet, we’d expect it to hit here at the end of summer.
