Adding yet more fuel to the fire that is La La Land's strong Oscar chances, the musical's director Damien Chazelle picked up a major award on Saturday night, as the Directors Guild Of America handed him its main movie prize.
Garth Davis, who had been nominated in both the top film prize and as a first-time director, took the latter trophy for his work on Lion. And in the documentary category, there was another award for O.J.: Made In America.
On the TV front, Miguel Sapochnik's work on Game Of Thrones' epic penultimate episode last season was recognised, as was Steven Zaillian's for the kickoff episode to The Night Of.
