A long-running family feud, cross-cultural love and some damn fine curries are the ingredients for this slight but sweet Brit-com. Two middle-aged brothers (Harish Patel and Kulvinder Ghir) run rival restaurants, having fallen out years before — until their daughter/niece Shalini (Amara Karan) enters them in a cooking competition, determined they should cater for her wedding. Charming, if disjointed, it’ll give you one hell of an appetite. And, somehow, cinematographer Roger Pratt manages to make the city of Leicester look cinematic. Give the man an Oscar.

Gupta made a mark with 2001's moody wartime drama Resistance and his latest, a more personal story inspired by his restaurant-running mum, repeats the trick with this enjoyable family feast.
