March Of The Penguins was criticised for applying human conceits like romantic love to its flippered stars, so there’s a sliver of wit in the idea of using voiceovers to turn its wildlife footage into a foul-mouthed soap opera. Unfortunately, a joke that could have worked as a sketch-show skit is agonisingly over-extended at 77 minutes.
The brainchild of US comedian Bob Saget, who told the filthiest joke in The Aristocrats, it’s heavy on witless toilet humour from presumably starving voice stars such as Jason Alexander and Jason Biggs, plus penguins talking like gangsta rappers. Oh, and guess who replaces Morgan Freeman as narrator? Samuel L. Jackson! They’re both black, you see!
