Apparently 20th Century Fox decided that this weekend should be Release Date Announcement-Palooza, as, in addition to confirming the Avatar sequel dates, set releases for a wealth of mutant movies and more, including Deadpool 2, The New Mutants and the next chapter of the main X-Men franchise, currently known as Dark Phoenix.

Deadpool 2 has, of course, been falling into place following the smash success of last year's original, and now boasts Josh Brolin aboard to play the character of Cable. It'll be with us on 1 June, 2018, a switch from the first film's February arrival, but A) Fox figures the Merc With A Mouth is ready to go up against the crowded summer competition and B) with shooting starting in the coming months, it couldn't conceivably be ready for next Feb.

The New Mutants, which has Josh Boone in the director's chair, is quickly coming together, with casting rumours flying for a while. The story of the first graduates from Charles Xavier's school is set to arrive on 13 April 2018. And finally on the X-Men front, Fox has actually acknowledged that the next movie will be Dark Phoenix, which will presumably feature Sophie Turner's Jean Grey seeing her power grow out of control. Little has been officially released about that one, though Simon Kinberg has been tipped to step into the director's seat.

In non-mutant news, Steven Spielberg/Tom Hanks/Meryl Streep Pentagon Papers film has landed an awards-schedule 22 December release this year, with Bohemian Rhapsody, staring Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, is on for Christmas 2018.

Then there are movies on the move, with Kingsman: The Golden Circle shifting up a week and Murder On The Orient Express shifting two weeks earlier in November this year. Shane Black's The Predator is leaving February next year and headed to 3 August, replaced by Maze Runner: The Death Cure, which slots into its place for a 9 February arrival.

We'd note here that the news usually corresponds to US releases and that UK dates could be slightly different, but at least we now know what to expect, especially in regards to Fox's expanding plans for its Mutant universe.
