Following his introduction in Captain America: Civil War, the brand new iteration of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, personified by Tom Holland, will be in his own film being readied for a 2017 release. It's clearly time to build the cast and Deadline has heard that actress and singer Zendaya will be part of it.

If the name doesn't ring a bell, you might be out of the age range of her usual target audience, as she's been a Disney Channel stalwart for a few years, working on shows such as K.C. Undercover, Shake It Up! and Good Luck Charlie. She's also known for her singing and dancing abilities, though that's unlikely to play much of a role in Spidey's adventures. Unless director Jon Watts is stealthily making the latest reboot a musical...

So far, all we really know about the role is that she'll be playing someone called Michelle, but there's no indication that it's one of the main characters. Zendaya joins an ensemble that already also includes Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. Watts is preparing to shoot this year for a July 7, 2017 slot. Captain America: Civil War, meanwhile, is out on April 29. Will Marvel show Spidey to the world before the film opens? That's a question only Kevin Feige and his team know the answer to right now.
