Amid all the big news to come out of the Marvel panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, one of the biggest announcements was that The Walking Dead's Danai Gurira has joined the cast of Black Panther.

She will appear alongside Chadwick Boseman, who made his debut as Wakandan warrior royal T'Challa in this year's Captain America: Civil War, Michel B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, his main nemesis, Lupita Nyong'o, whose character was revealed to be Nakia, a character who in the comics has variously been a love interest and a threat to T'Challa.

Usually found lopping zombe heads off in Dead, Gurira is Okoye, the head of the Dora Milaje, who were themselves briefly seen in Civil War as T'Challa's powerful bodyguards, comprised of the best warriors Wakanda has to offer, all of them female.

Black Panther's plot is still largely a secret, and the movie does;t start shooting until January, but Creed's Ryan Coogler – who was also on stage today – will be directing. The movie will be out on February 9, 2018.
