The idea of a sequel to Tim Burton's horror fantasy comedy Beetlejuice has been floating around the cinematic ether for ages, but got new impetus a couple of years ago. Things are still moving slowly, though, but the potential film at least has a new writer in Mike Vukadinovich.

Seth Grahame-Smith had been writing a version and still intends to produce the film with partner David Katzenberg. But it looks like Warner Bros. is after some fresh eyes in the screenplay department. Vukadinovich recently co-wrote Rememory and has worked on the new Runaways series from Marvel and US streaming service Hulu.

As Deadline cautions, there are no deals in place for either Burton or Michael Keaton – who played the mischievous spirit conjured up and causing chaos – to return for this one, though they have both expressed interest and have been working together again on the new Dumbo for Disney. So we may finally see this one come together; just don't expect it any time soon.
