The first Angry Birds film wasn't exactly received warmly, but it made a big chunk of change at the box office, so Sony and game company Rovio were quick to announce a sequel. Now we know who is making it and when it'll be flapping into our cinemas: 2019.

Taking over behind the scenes are co-directors Thurop Van Orman (whose credits include Adventure Time) and Rick And Morty veteran John Rice, who has form with the fledgling franchise after serving as a storyboard artist on the first film. Peter Ackerman, who has worked on several of the Ice Age films, is on script duty. Though we'd honestly be more interest if he brought the flavour of his efforts on US TV spy drama The Americans...

As for the characters, no casting has been announced, but we'd expect to see the return of Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage and more, depending on what the story calls for.

The film is due to hit screens on 20 September 2019, which not-so-coincidentally happens to be the 10th anniversary of the game's original launch.
