While he's better known as the man behind comedies such as Anchorman and The Other Guys or the Oscar-winning The Big Short, Adam McKay is also a huge comic book fan, and has worked on the story for both Ant-Man and its upcoming sequel. But he's now taking the chance to make his own superhero film with a twist, adapting Boom! Comics' Irredeemable.

Dead Snow/Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters' Tommy Wirkola is writing the script for the film, which takes on Mark Waid and Peter Krause's title. Irredeemable is set in a world where the greatest hero is the Plutonian... at lest until he stops taking on super villains and starts killing regular humans who disagree with him. His former colleagues, hero group the Paradigm are charged with trying to stop him, even though none of them has anywhere near his power. They desperately turn to a famous enemy for help in taking him down.

It sounds like McKay could be bringing us a more irreverent take on the Superman tale and will hopefully infuse it with his trademark wit. The writer/director has several projects in development and, as mentioned above, has worked with Paul Rudd on the story for Ant-Man And The Wasp.
