Late last year, news broke that Paramount had decided to hand over the torch of the Jack Ryan franchise to its TV department. The team behind the show has now find their Ryan, with John Krasinski in place to star.

Amazon Studios picked up the rights to distribute the series, which has former Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse teaming up with another veteran of the island, writer/producer Graham Roland (a former Marine, which will help with some of the details), to steer the new show. They won’t be directly adapting any of Tom Clancy’s books, but will instead be showcasing the character as a CIA agent/analyst in the present day, a few years beyond when we see him in the 2014 film, without being a continuation of that take on the character.

Krasinski might have seemed unlikely choice for the lead until this year's 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi (directed by Michael Bay, who also is an executive producer on the Ryan series) proved he could add action hero to his comedy and dramatic chops.

There's no official greenlight for the project yet according to Deadline, but with Krasinski on board, that straight-to-series order can't be far away. And Emily Blunt does sign on for a potential Edge Of Tomorrow sequel, we can only imagine the push-up/pull-up competition going on in the Blunt/Krasinski household...
