Rogue Trooper Review

Enjoyably space-bashing shoot-em-up.

Six year ago, console developer Rebellion purchased 2000AD, heralding a new wave of games based on the innovative British inkie. And, much like the company’s recent Judge Dredd adventure, this perfectly captures the mood and spirit of the original comics. The Rogue Trooper mythology lends itself perfectly to console carnage, the poisoned planet Nu Earth providing a grim backdrop for the slaughter, and the hero’s biochip implants — which contain the personalities of his dead comrades — allow you to unleash special powers that enhance your battlefield performance. However, a feeling of déjà vu pervades the game, Rogue Trooper having pinched ideas and set-pieces from countless other blasters and offering little in the way of originality or innovation.
