MotorStorm: Apocalypse

Developer Evolution Studios have had a dire run of late and the tragic current events in Japan have hammered home another blow. Inevitably perhaps, the content and context in which MotorStorm: Apocalypse takes place - an earthquake ravaged cityscape - temporarily halted the game's release.

Well, for those of you interested, the wait has been worth it. Evolution’s latest is a blistering example of arcade racing done good. The goal is simple: barrel through quake-ravaged streets, across rooftops and collapsing bridges in a variety of single player, co-op or online modes, all in a desperate bid to reach the finish line before Mother Nature or your opponents catch up to you.

It’s an unstoppable assault on the senses that, at least at the outset, can seem a little overwhelming, but once you get to grips with the crumbling buildings, beached yachts and careening trains you’ll soon get an idea of what MotorStorm: Apocalypse is about – a masterclass in evolving scenery and the Michael Bay of videogames. Fierce, furious and even more impressive when played in eye-melting 3D, this latest effort is a speedster like no other on PS3.
