While the last thing the world needs is another procedural crime drama, Bruno Heller’s series shot up through the ratings

— and with good reason. Thanks to a star-making turn from Simon Baker as McKenna-esque mind-reader Patrick Jane, the crime of the week is almost secondary to watching Jane twist suspects into knots, cracking wise at every opportunity while the police look on bewildered. Hardly heavy stuff, but endlessly entertaining regardless.
