While we're all still sat here patiently waiting for The Morning Show Season 4 to finally hit Apple TV+ on 17 September, it looks like its star, Jennifer Aniston, is already lining up her next project to star in and produce at the streamer — and to call it a change of pace for the Friends icon would be an understatement to say the least. Per Deadline, Apple has just greenlit I'm Glad My Mom Died, a 10-episode dramedy inspired by child star-turned-writer Jennette McCurdy's astonishing, New York Times bestselling memoir — and Aniston is set to play, well, the mom.
Written, executive produced, and showrun by McCurdy alongside On The Count Of Three scribe Ari Katcher, I'm Glad My Mom Died sees the former iCarly starlet recount her experiences as a child actor not only contending with coming of age in the media spotlight, but coming of age under the shadow of a domineering mother. As the title sort of suggests, McCurdy's book is a confronting and at times almost unbearably difficult read, especially as it pertains to the narcissistic and abusive tendencies of her mother. It is however also a book written with an almost unbelievable lightness of touch and sense of humour, which is where the series' 'dramedy' billing comes in. The presence of Sharon Horgan's Bad Sisters banner Merman, Margot Robbie's LuckyChap, and American comic Jerrod Carmichael among the series' other producorial credits only further solidifies that we're likely in for as darkly comic a ride with McCurdy's series as with her book.
As for who'll be stepping into Jennette McCurdy's shoes for the show, when we might expect to see it, and what its creation may mean for potential future seasons of The Morning Show, nothing is officially confirmed just yet — though Deadline's sources report that it is 'fully expected' Alex Levy and co will be back for a fifth season of the streaming hit. Still, the promise of more Aniston and an adaptation of one of the best memoirs of the decade so far is plenty to be hyped for already, even if that title still makes for a bit of a risky watercooler conversation starter.
