Four years since Marvel Studios formally announced they were making an Ironheart Disney+ series to introduce Tony Stark's 'tech genius hero' heir apparent Riri Williams to the MCU, and three years since Dominique Thorne made her debut as the teen whizz-kid in Ryan Coogler's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Marvel's other genius inventor is finally about to take off next month on Disney+. And with EP Coogler and head writer Chinaka Hodge's show right round the corner, today we got a juicy first trailer for the six-episode series, showing Williams building her supersuit, meeting Anthony Ramos' sketchy magic-wielder Parker 'The Hood' Robbins, and encountering a mysterious new character played by Solo star Alden Ehrenreich. Check it out below;

It may have taken its time getting here, but if this first trailer for Ironheart is anything to go by, it's not hard to see why Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr., gave his successor 'two thumbs up'. Starting with an unexpectedly Saw-like sequence in which Thorne's dumpster-diving heroine is trapped in a lift by Ramos' Robbins, given three minutes to improvise a way out of a certain-death scenario, this teaser for the show quickly establishes the vibe here: we're not getting Iron Man 2.0 with Riri Williams, but rather a scrappier story of a young Black woman looking to prove herself, to be "undeniable" and "iconic" in her own right while dealing with the simultaneous pressures of studying at MIT and wearing a supersuit to take on literal wizards. Y'know, relatable street-level stuff!

Here's the official synopsis for the show, which also co-stars Lyric Ross, Regan Aliyah, Manny Montana, Matthew Elam and Anji White: "Set after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda ForeverIronheart pits technology against magic when Riri — determined to make her mark on the world—returns to her hometown of Chicago. Her unique take on building iron suits is brilliant, but in pursuit of her ambitions, she finds herself wrapped up with the mysterious yet charming Parker Robbins aka “The Hood” (Ramos)."

Brian Michael Bendis' fan-favourite comic book creation may have taken her sweet time finally getting to our screens, but we're more than ready to see Riri Williams fly high when Ironheart makes its three-episode Disney+ premiere on 24 June.
