We have some post-apocalyptic news for you this morning, folks. Some downright ghoulish news, in fact. But fear not, this is post-apocalyptic, ghoulish news not of the executive order making, tariff touting, English speaking test kind, but rather the Peak TV kind. During their 2025 Upcoming presentation last night, Amazon confirmed ahead of the release of Fallout Season 2 this December that Fallout Season 3 is already in the works and on its way to Prime Video. That's right, folks — we're heading back to the wasteland!
News of the series' renewal comes as no great surprise. The show, based on Bethesda's wildly popular Fallout RPG video games, is among Amazon's most-watched releases ever, with a reported 100 million viewers tuning in globally to see Vault dweller Lucy (Ella Purnell), Walton Goggins' Ghoul, and more navigate the Mad Max like post-apocalyptic expanse of Los Angeles, circa 2296. And with Season 2 set to take viewers across the Mojave and towards New Vegas, the setting of fan-favourite franchise entry Fallout: New Vegas (who'd have thunk?), the show's horizons are only broadening as the fate of this world and its morally murky denizens hang in the balance.
“The holidays came a little early this year — we are thrilled to be ending the world all over again for a third season of Fallout,” executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy said in a statement accompanying the show's renewal announcement. “On behalf of our brilliant cast and crew, our showrunners Geneva [Robertson-Dworet] and Graham [Wagner], and our partners at Bethesda, we’re grateful to our incredible collaborators at Amazon MGM Studios and to the amazing fans as we continue our adventures in the wasteland together.” Added show runners Robertson-Dworet and Wagner: "We’re so grateful to have survived the apocalypse for another season! Thanks to the incredible team — our whole cast and crew, Kilter, and Amazon."
With Fallout scoring a third season, The Last Of Us enjoying another acclaimed run with Season 2 and a confirmed Season 3 on the way, and A Minecraft Movie doing big business at the box office, it looks like the video game adaptation boom isn't likely to crunch anytime soon. If it means we get more Goggins Ghoul action though, we ain't complaining. If we've got to have an apocalypse, at least this one's fictional, eh?
