With awards season all but done and dusted, OscarsGolden Globes, SAGs, and BAFTAs all having been dutifully doled out over the past few months, this evening saw the BAFTA TV Awards 2025 — hosted by Avengers: Doomsday's Alan Cumming and held at London's Royal Festival Hall — take centre stage for a night of red carpet walking and shiny statue giving. And during a telecast in which the two most nominated shows — Netflix stalker thriller Baby Reindeer and ITV drama Mr Bates Vs The Post Office — took home one award apiece, the likes of Mr Loverman, Shōgun, and Blue Lights all scored big wins in major categories.

On the night, Baby Reindeer's sole win saw Jessica Gunning's turn as Richard Gadd's crazed stalker Martha recognised in the Supporting Actress race, while Mr Bates Vs Post Office, which was elsewhere nominated in both Lead acting categories, took home the coveted accolade for Limited Drama. In the other primary show categories, Drama Series and International, BBC cop drama Blue Lights took the former while Disney+ feudal epic Shōgun landed an expected victory in the latter.

Elsewhere, Mr Loverman's two acting awards for Lennie James and first-time BAFTA winner Ariyon Bukare for Lead and Supporting Actor respectively were both met with rapturous responses at the Southbank Centre, while Industry star Marisa Abela also scored her first BAFTA in a fiercely contested Leading Actress race. Abela's win, beating out the likes of Anna Maxwell Martin, Billie Piper, and Monica Dolan, is the latest success in what's becoming a hell of a year for the actor, who impressed in last year's Back To Black and recently gave a standout performance in Steven Soderbergh's Black Bag. Also, amid live performances from Jessie J and Tom Grennan and a touching In Memoriam section that honoured the likes of Michelle Trachtenberg, Tony Slattery, and original Shōgun star Richard Chamberlain, Danny Dyer and Ruth Jones' triumphs in the Comedy Lead categories for Mr Big Stuff and Gavin & Stacey were real highlights of the show.
